I’m wiring right up a Generac 20 KW. The 4th one in the last thirty days. Each one of them has received a very long cost the ATS and much from it is actually outside the home. The works were about 100 foot long with lots of changes in way. Conduit and several JB’s was too much work so I are operating #1 Aluminim SER your energy and switching up to copper in a JB with Carflex and # 3 copper for your final connection.
The control wiring is made of three low-voltage (12 volts) cables and three line voltage cables for current realizing with the typical and generator power. The minimum dimensions wire try #18. I was running 18-3 sunlight/weather proof for any low-voltage and 14-3 UF for all the line current. I have manage these wires to a WP JB and changed to 1/2″ with THHN and carflex for the last few feet the price of the UF and working a seperate 18-3 seems like extra services and value than it needs to be.
If the works were a lot quicker i might work conduit for every thing. The changeover from AL to CU might be eradicated and I could operate all the controls cable within one conduit (6 # 18 thhn in 1/2 inches). I’m interested in suggested statements on just how to combine the controls wiring into one wire. (more…)
